Der Winter. Зима. El Invierno.
yes! the winter is finally here. it has come with its negative twenties, with the white christmas-kind of snow falling from the heavy low skies, with the icy flowers on the window in the kitchen, with the urge to start morally preparing myself to a new list of new year resolutions and with a big wish for coldrex to start working on me cuz it hasn't been so far. at times such as this i wonder if it was right for me to cancel my south african program. and...no matter the palm trees , the sandals, the sundresses, the salty ocean splashes and many many other things i'd say that yes, it was...i've had my portion of summer this year so it's time for another extremely familiar season to come:)
anyway, as i am sick for the second day in a row and am not working i have a lot of time to read which is good. as i am unable to go to the library and take books from there all i read is what i have at home. as i have alreday read all the books that i have at home all i can do is to start re-reading the books i used to read as a child. one of such books happened to be fairy tales by hans christian anderson. amazing, i'd say. one of them, der Schneemann, seems to go so well with this post that i can't help retelling it. esp. that there is a very good question in the end. and i looove looking for answers.
so once upon a time there was a snowman. he had two eyes and a mouth and two hands and he could speak and dream and even get mad at things but he could not move. that's understandable--he was a snowman after all. the sun made the snowman feel uneasy. the moon wasn't much fun either. but the old black dog on the chain became his best friend and always told him stories. about what he'd seen and learned and places he'd been to. and so the snowman listened, complained about the 'stupid yellow sun' and tried to imagine the things his friend was telling him about. once the dog told him about the furnace that was in his mistress' room. the snowman listened again, then happened to see 'her' and fall in love. the furnace looked very beautiful with the fire inside and the snowman' s only wish was to grow legs and run in her embrace. he couldn't think of anything else but her. it was nightmarish. one day the weather changed. the sun started shining brighter and the snowman ran! in just a few hours nothing more than two pieces of tiles that used to be his eyes and a piece old rakes that served him as mouth was left of him. no sense so far? okay, time for teh question: there actually WAS something else left. something, that the boys used as a basis to steady him. what was it??? can you guess????
